Precision CNC manufacturing

Tolerances measured in microns, not millimeters

Ferrotech manufactures precision-machined components for aerospace, medical device, and defense customers who cannot afford a part to fail in the field.

Capabilities

From prototype to production, in-house

We run five-axis CNC machining, wire EDM, and precision grinding under one roof, so tolerances stay consistent across the full production run.

  • 5-axis CNC machining

Complex geometries machined to tolerances as tight as ±0.0002 inches on titanium and Inconel alloys.

  • Wire & sinker EDM

Precision electrical discharge machining for hardened materials and intricate internal geometries.

  • Precision grinding

Surface, cylindrical, and centerless grinding to finish critical dimensional and surface finish requirements.

  • Metrology & inspection

In-house CMM inspection with full first-article and lot traceability documentation for every shipment.

  • Low-volume prototyping

Rapid-turn prototype runs to validate design before committing to full production tooling.

  • Production-scale runs

Sustained production capacity for programs requiring tens of thousands of parts annually.

Program highlights

A few programs we can discuss publicly

Most of our aerospace and defense work is covered under NDA. These are programs our customers have approved us to reference.

  • Energy infrastructure

    Aldergrove Turbine Systems

Redesigned the fixturing and inspection process for a turbine component program, cutting defect rate from 43 PPM to 12 PPM within two quarters.

-72%reduction in defect rate after process redesign

  • Industrial equipment

    Brightwater Hydraulics

Compressed a prototype validation program from fourteen weeks to four by running prototyping and tooling design in parallel rather than sequentially.

About Ferrotech

A family-founded shop that grew up alongside its customers

Ferrotech was founded in 1987 by a machinist who started with two manual lathes in a rented bay. As our aerospace and medical device customers' tolerance requirements tightened over the decades, we reinvested continuously in five-axis CNC and metrology equipment to keep pace.

Traceability on everything
Every part ships with full material and process traceability documentation, no exceptions.
In-house metrology
We don't outsource inspection. Every critical dimension is measured on our own CMM equipment.
Stay in one facility
We've stayed a single, continuously expanded Cleveland facility rather than diffusing quality control across sites.
Reinvest in equipment
A meaningful share of annual revenue goes back into machining and inspection equipment every year.

What program managers say

  • “We moved a critical turbine component program to Ferrotech after a defect escape with our previous supplier. Three years in, we haven't had a single field failure.”

    Gordon Blackwell

VP Supply Chain, Aldergrove Turbine Systems

  • “Their in-house metrology caught a dimensional drift our own incoming inspection would have missed. That's the kind of supplier you want on a flight-critical part.”

    Naomi Ostrander

    Quality Director, Brightwater Hydraulics

  • “Full traceability documentation on every shipment, every time, without us having to chase it down. That alone saved our compliance team hours every month.”

    Theo Vukovich

    Procurement Manager, Halcyon Surgical Instruments

Notes from our engineering team

  • Quality

What drives defect rate down on a mature program

Fixturing and inspection process changes that cut a customer's defect rate by 72% without new equipment.

  • Process

Running prototyping and tooling design in parallel

How we compressed a fourteen-week prototype validation program down to four weeks.

  • Metrology

Why we still inspect everything in-house

The traceability and quality case for keeping metrology under the same roof as machining.
